Today somebody asked if we had dance today....oops....I just assumed everyone knew that we didn't-So.....the official statement is all of DancELation's classes are out until the week of January 4th and then we will resume our regular dance schedule. A reminder: I follow the Weber County School Districts Calendar...when there is no school-no dance. I hope you all enjoy this Holiday season with family and friends....it's my favorite! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Have A Wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!
I hope all of you have a Wonderful and Safe Thanksgiving Break next week. Remember, because of the Holiday, there will be no classes held next week:) Also, a student is missing a dance shoe. If you happen to find an extra one that you accidentally brought home please bring it back to the studio. I am starting to get a Lost and Found Collection in the Locker. Please look through and see if anything is yours, otherwise they will be taking a trip to DI soon:) I feel like I am in a good place this year. I have ordered almost ALL of the costumes for the classes/dances. My order should be coming in TODAY!-YEAH! I will add up the costume costs for each class thus far, and then you can start making payments ASAP-So look for an E-mail within the next week for Costume Cost. Anything Extra that I order, I will notify you as I do so, and that will be added to the balance as I make those purchases. I still have a lot that still owe for DancElation shirts. Remember preschoolers $8 and everyone else $10. I also still need registration papers from some of you too. If you keep forgetting to put payment in payment box at my studio you can also make out a check to Celeste McKinney and mail payment to: 1931 S. River Run Drive, Huntsville, UT 84317 Thank YOU!

Competition Date Mix-Up- SORRY!
Thank you to an observant parent who noticed a discrepancy in the first post I sent about Utah Dance Fest Competition and the most recent post where I put Save the Date. The actual Date for Utah Dance Fest Floor Competition is APRIL 15th and 16th-NOT in March as stated in my last post. Please update that info on your calendar. That is for DancExcel, DancElect and DancElite. So sorry! Don't know how I mixed that up. Reminder-DancElect and DancElite have make up class this Friday. DancElect 1:45-3:45 and DancElite 2:45-5:45. So Class 2 days in a row! Yay!:)

Reminders....Costumes....and Competition Classes SAVE THE DATE!
All Classes are cancelled for tomorrow. Regarding DancElect and DancElite make-up class, from those that responded on which day worked best, next Friday the 13th (uh-oh sounds like bad luck, better not jinx myself ;) won. So, next Thursday will be regular scheduled practice, and then next-day, Friday, make up day. It is an early out day for the elementary so DancElect will meet at 1:45pm-3:45pm and Dance Elite 2:45pm-5:45pm.
I have purchased some costumes already, and have other costumes picked out to order. I will be measuring next week to get sizes. I usually don't have parents pay costume fees until May, but I acrue interest on those purchases I have made throughout the year and believe it or not, I have people that don't pay at all and I end up eating that cost-So....I am suggesting to parents, it would be better to add at least an extra $10-$20 onto monthly tuition-then when I figure final costume cost/payment, it won't be as big of a burden. Competition Classes first competition is Dance Fest Utah in Logan, April 15th and 16th @ USU campus. That will involve DancExcel, DancElect, and DancElite. DancElect and DancElite will be doing a 2nd Competition with Aspire Dance Pro, and because the WSU comp is the weekend of our Spring Break, we will either do the Cottonwood(6th-7th) or Taylorsville(13th-14th) Comp in May- SO SAVE THE DATE AND MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!!!!!! Note that competitions usually have solos/duets etc on the Friday and Team comp on the Saturday. If there is conflict I need to know ASAP!!! So, costume/shoe fees, March competition fees, will be due probably in January. Each comp class is performing 3 different routines, therefore, 3 different costumes. Each costume average at least $30- that should give you a ball park to plan around. Just giving you a heads up so you can plan accordingly. All other classes, I will be asking for costume payment BEFORE recital-and this year you will not receive costumes unless paid for beforehand. I know this may sound excess to some of you, but if you asked other parents whose kids are dancing in other studios, you will find pretty easily that they are paying closer to $75-$100 per costume....:/ K...That is it for now-I am seeing some good progress is technique in my dancers-hope they are having fun! thank you!

Last Minute Plans........
If you don't know me, you should know I am really great at making last minute plans:) It usually doesn't affect my dance classes but this week it will. I have a niece that was diagnosed when she was a baby with a genetic terminal disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. SMA is the #1 genetic killer of infants and young children and there is currently no treatment or cure. Believe it or not, SMA has even effected our little valley. For those that know the Schilke family, their son Kyle was born with SMA and just passed away a year ago. He was in Hailey's grade:) For the last 5 years my sister and other family members have participated in the Santa Barbara Marathon to raise money and awareness to SMA. This year is particularly special because my sister is going to actually be pushing her daughter/my niece in the marathon in tribute to a fellow SMA family who used to push their SMA daughter in the marathon whom just passed away this August. Though I will not be running :).....I felt the desire to come support my niece/sister and all other family members that are running. So here is a link that I thought I would share about my sister's marathon/fundraising page if you feel so inclined to visit:) http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/cherisselunt/2015-TeamGSF-SBMarathon
So, because we are leaving Thursday morning, I have to change my classes for this Thursday. (Affects Thursday classes only!) My preschool class will be meeting, tomorrow, this Tuesday, from 2:45-3:45pm. DancElect and DancElite will be having a make-up day either Friday November 13th (early out day)November after school 1:45-5:45 or Saturday Morning November 14th 9am-1pm. Parents of Comp class-please message me what will work better so I can make a decision to make sure I get most dancers there. Sorry for inconvenience-Thank you for your time. Spread the word:)

Snowcrest Halloween Carnival this FRIDAY!
Snowcrest Halloween Carnival is this Friday the 23rd from 6-9pm. Tickets/bands for food/games can be purchased at the door but not required to enter. Your child should have brought their dance shirt home today. The cost is $10 except preschool kids shirts are $8. You can add that to November's Tuition. Please make sure you are writing checks out to Celeste McKinney and not DancElation. On Friday they will just need to wear their shirts with black tank/leotard, shorts or leggings etc. Preschoolers wear witch hat with ties or elastic. Ghoul/ghost make-up hair encouraged for everyone else:) The Carnival starts at 6pm but I want all dancers sitting on West side bleachers in the gym by 6:50pm sitting with classes. The kids will be performing at 7pm- Our kids are doing 3 dances-1st-Preschoolers “Witches Brew” 2nd- Whip/Nae Nae (everyone else) 3rd- I'm in Love with a Monster-DancElect and DancElite. This will be a great 1st experience learning to perform in front of a big crowd. :)

This Week.....
Reminder: Because of UEA weekend/fall break, this Thursday's class will be meeting Tomorrow-TUESDAY! Same Class times! Wednesday classes are the same. I have purchased shirts for the Fall festival and as soon as I get total cost from my screen printer I will give you $ totals. Plan around $10- preschool class shirts are different and will probably cost slightly less. Many of you did not put your child's clothing size on your enrollment form so I had to guess as best as I could. Hopefully all will be happy. :) Here is a pic of the shirts I got for everyone but the preschoolers. I purchased 4 different colors. They will just need to wear black dance shorts or leggings with the shirt for the fall festival which is next Friday evening the 23rd at Snowcrest JH. Hope everyone has a wonderful week and enjoy the break!

Class change, Fall Festival, Competition Dates
Since Fall Break (UEA weekend) falls on a Thursday, I am moving all Thursday, October 15th classes to Tuesday, October 13th. I understand some of you already have schedules for other activities on Tuesday but I want to make sure we have enough practices before the fall festival which is the week after. Class times will remain the same-just on a different day for that week. Please make note on your calendars.
I talked to Snowcrest Junior High today. The Fall Festival is set for Friday, October 23rd, 2015 from 6-9pm. I am assuming our kids will be performing around 7pm in the gym, but it is not set in stone. There will be food and activities but you must purchase tickets/bands at the door to participate in those since this is a fundraiser. I have thought about purchasing everyone a DancElation T-shirt that they could wear with black leggings/shorts/or leotard. I am guessing the cost will be around $10 each. That way they would have a dance shirt they could wear all year long, but it would also make it look more uniform when they are performing. Hair and make-up would just finish off the look. Preschoolers will need a witch hat. Warning:the hat will fall off while kids are performing so I am suggesting to put ribbon ties or elastic on the hat to help it stay on. Everyone else would just have to have messy/ratted hair, and zombie/ghost like make-up. It could be as simple as darkening around the eyes.
It is already that time of year to start marking calendars for competition dates. DancExcel, DancElite, DancElect will all be performing at:
Utah Dance Fest
FLOOR COMPETITION
APRIL 15-16, 2016
USU Dee Glen Smith Spectrum
Logan, Utah
Competition Fees are $15 per dancer per dance. Each class will be doing 2-3 dances each so plan accordingly. It will be between $30-$45 each. Solos $70, Duets/Trios $50-plan accordingly. Costume Fees will range between $30-$100 per costume..hopefully more towards the latter-plan ahead accordingly. I TRY!!! my best to find the best deals to save parents money but can't always guarantee it. We will be ordering shoes for competition soon too that they will need to practice in class with. If some comp girls have shoes from last year that are in good condition but too small-let me know and I will post it at the studio for those who want a buy used shoes for a better deal.
DancElite, DancElect groups will also be performing in the Aspire Dance Pro Competition. The problem is the WSU comp is at the end of our Spring Break week. Let me know if that is a problem for those participating, otherwise, there are other Aspire Dance competitions in Utah in May but I don't know if they are set up stage/floor comp like the WSU comp which we thoroughly enjoyed last year. The fees for this competition will be slightly more but comparable, plan accordingly.

Great 1st week!!
Yeah!! A great first week to our dance year. All classes are working on a simple fun performance for Snowcrest Junior High Fall Festival that will be held toward the end of October. I will let you know more once I am made aware of the details. I have copies of the enrollment form at the studio if you still need to fill one out. Also, last week, the director of Utah Dance Fest informed me they were canceling the workshop for this Saturday due to unforeseen circumstances :/ She felt so bad and I was soooo disappointed. So, for all those that had signed up, so sorry. We will definitely be doing some workshops next year. She was nice and mailed a small gift to all those who had signed up. I will get those to you this week. Keep working hard at home on the things that you learned this week. See you soon!

Ballet Classes offered!
DancElation is excited to have Brittney Smith who has a strong ballet/dance and teaching background. She will be coming into some of my competition classes for 30min ballet instruction. Her family purchased a new house and so will be moving soon- but we are so pleased to have her help instruct for as long as we can have her:).
We also want to welcome Jessica Groom. She has a strong passion and love for dance and would love to instruct anyone who is interested in developing ballet technique which is the core for most dance styles. She is teaching a few ballet classes on Tuesdays and would invite those who are interested in a Ballet Technique Class from 4-5:30pm and a Ballet Performance Class from 5:30-7pm. Please contact for any questions regarding classes. More classes may be made as demand grows. REMINDER: CLASSES START NEXT WEEK!!!!!! and Dance Workshop is still open for registration but yo need to act ASAP!

Dance Workshop-Awesome Opportunity/Experience!
This year we have a great opportunity to participate in a dance workshop on Saturday, September 19th. Three amazing and talented choreographers/dancers will give technique and dance instruction to all levels and ages of dancers. I strongly encourage students who love to dance and have the desire to become better to take this workshop-especially those interested in competition teams. It is $115 for the whole day per dancer which includes lunch and gift, but if I get 15 dancers registered they will give us $10 off per dancer. We can carpool down to Logan for those that want to go. I can't reiterate how much of a great opportunity this could be for your dancer. Please contact me ASAP if you are interested. The sooner we are registered, the better. Thank You!

Ready....:)
So, it is set. I have a new place to call "dance home". It is located west of Carlos and Harleys, in the same building as the Copy Center, Healing Tree etc. I have A LOT to do to get it dance ready. So....here is the official schedule. Next week, Thursday the 27th, we will have Competition Team try-outs for DancElect and DancElite. It is a half day so I will have tryouts from 2pm - 4:30pm. Tryouts will be set up to consist of warm up/stretches, across the floor/on floor technique, combo/choreograpy learning. They will be put into small groups and asked to perform dance combo and then individually called out to perform certain technique.(splits, leg holds, pirouettes, leaps etc.) Please wear appropriate dance attire and bring dance shoes-big possibility the floor will still be carpet at that time. I am looking for strong performance technique, musicality, and showmanship. I will email team placement results by Friday night. No matter what performance comp team the girls are placed on, they will receive dance instruction/choreography that will be fun and push their indivuidual abilities, so I am sure they can't go wrong no matter what team they are placed on. They will all get to compete at least once whether it is DancExcel, DancElect, or DancElite. All I require is a positive attitude, and a work hard ethic.
Dance Classes will officially start the 2nd week of September- Wednesday September 9th and Thursday September 10th. Please come the scheduled dance time with Dance Enrollment forms, Registration Fee $30, and September Tuition. That will still get us 4 dance weeks in for September and give me an extra week to get things ready:) I am still hoping to get some ballet classes set for Tuesdays so make sure you subscribe to my blog so you can keep updated on all my new posts. Let's GO!!!!!

1) $30 Registration Fee per student due
2) Registration forms filled out and signed. Forms will be available at studio or print off and fill out beforehand.
3) 1st months tuition due
I will be doing -$5 sibling discount this year. For example, if you have two kids doing a one hour class each, one child will be regular price ($35) and 2nd child will get $5 off ($30) I slightly increased tuition this year because I am in the process of renting my own space. If all goes well, my new studio will be in the old Montessori School building in Eden, west of Carlos and Harley's. :) Central location from the Junior High and Elementary schools, more parking, and safer environment but a bigger financial investment for me- I tried to minimize the hike as best I could.
Monthly tuition
1 hr - $35
1 1/2 hr - $52
2 hr- $65
3 hr- $88
4 hr- $108
Class Schedule-(this schedule is pretty set (85% :) I switched older girls class to Wednesday, tried to end it so they could make their mutual activities. I am hoping to add other classes during the week such as ballet, but waiting to hear back :) I feel it important for any student wanting to be on a
competitive team to take a ballet class. I work with all classes on basic technique/terminology but it would greatly enhance their dancing/vocabulary to take a ballet class too. I am waiting to see if it will work out with a new ballet teacher I have been talking with. :)

Creating classes for 2015-16
I am doing a pre-registration. Please leave comment in the post regarding your child age, grade, and style of dance you are interested them in doing. Most of my regular classes, I teach a variety of styles but some of you might want one or more specific styles. According to the imput, I can figure out a basic schedule for classes. I have had many of you interested in your child doing a competiton class this year. We will have a scheduled tryout in which your child will be placed in a comp group according to skill/level and age. You have to be mindful that comp classes are required to take more hours of dance since we typically will be competing against teams that practice 2-8 hours a week. So to sign up you are committing to the time/tuition , competition fees etc. Competition fees are around $20 per dance. The beginning comp classes start at minimum 2 hour block which is $60 per month. The intermediate class starts a minimum of 4 hours per week $100 per month. I will put a list of basic dance styles. Please list one, some, or even all. Classes will be determined by overall interest.
Tap, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary/lyrical, musical theater, clogging, cheer, acro, competition. Once I have a schedule for classes we will have registration. The registration fee is $30 per child. Bring that with registration papers filled out and signed which I will attach to a post soon with the date/place of registration. Thank you!! Please feel free to share this info with neighbors/friends :)

1 hour $30
