"May"-hem :) Lots of Info for this month
I can't believe it is already MAY!!!! It is a busy time at the end of the school year and I am sure everyone is trying to juggle their own schedules so I am going to try to do a run down for the rest of the month. This week is a normal dance week-come at your scheduled day/time. Next week, on Tuesday the 10th from 2:45pm-4:00pm and Wednesday the 11th from 4:15-5:00pm you can come pick up costumes at the studio. You can only pick up if your tuition/costume balance is $0. I will try to send out statements this week so you know where you stand. I am not handing them out during class times because I would like your child to try on costumes while I am there so that you are familiar with what/how they will be wearing their costumes for the recital. Please bring a garment back/hangers or suitcase to put costumes in. I will have costumes still in original packages in a small grocery bag so once they are opened you do not want to lose anything. Please put your child's name on each costume piece. Class times for that week will be normal.
The next week we will have a rehearsal at Snowcrest Junior High, but because of time we won't be able to do a full rehearsal with costumes etc. so come with regular dance attire. Here are the times for each class. On Wednesday, May 18th- 5-6yr class will meet at 2:45-3:45pm at the Junior High. We had to push it up an hour because the Junior High doesn't get let out of school until 2:30pm. DancExcel will rehearse in the gym from 3:45-4:45pm. On Thursday, the preschool class will rehearse at Snowcrest from 2:45-3:45pm, DancElect 3:45-4:45pm and DancElite 4:45-5:45pm. Then Wednesday, May 25th, is our Year End Recital @ Snowcrest Junior High. We will start promptly at 6:30pm so everyone needs to be there and ready no later than @ 6pm. Greg Anderson is doing the videography again this year. He does a fabulous professional job and so make sure you fill out your DVD order at the front table when you arrive. He only charges $12 per DVD and they get mailed to your home. He takes cash/checks. I NEED HELPERS FOR RECITAL NIGHT!!!! To make the night run smooth and so parents can enjoy the recital I am asking for each child in the preschool class to find someone to help your child change costumes between dances. Find someone they know and are comfortable with and is old enough to be helpful-and it needs to be a girl since boys will not be allowed back by the changing area. For 5-6yr old class I am looking for 6 helpers since they have a large class. Let me know if anyone has someone that is willing to come and help. I will be looking for helpers also but I would rather have too many than not enough:) Recital Hair for Preschool and 5-6yr old class is down and curled with sides back. Other classes will do hair that they did at competition. Hope everyone is practicing at home....I push the envelope a little trying to cram 3 dances into a recital when most studios do 1 dance per 1 hour class....:/ but they CAN do it!!!! Just need to practice:)
Summer Schedule will be coming out soon!!!!! We have our annual parade camp for Huntsville 4th of July parade, Princess Camps, and then some fun workshops and intensives throughout the summer. Those that are interested in doing a competition class next year will be required to come to different workshops since that is how I will decide how to place individuals in the right level/team for next year. There will be different opportunities so that if you are gone for some you can make others. I am interested in starting a mini comp class for 6-7yr olds but want to see what interest there is. They will be required to do at least 2 hours per week and attend 1 to 2 competitions in the spring so please leave comments/feedback if interested.

Utah Dance Fest-more info
Hi Directors -
It’s me again … I forgot to tell you THREE REALLY IMPORTANT THINGS:
1. BATTLE:
Make sure you READ in the info letter about our BRAND NEW BATTLE OF THE BEST contest at the end of each day! We will update our TOP 10 SCORES OF THE DAY (top 5 in each lane) every hour each day on a screen at the competition - and also via Twitter and Instagram - and at the end of each day, the 3 highest scores of the whole day in each lane will be asked to perform one more time for the judges to determine our Utah Dance Fest BEST OF SHOW for that day. So let your teams and parents know that they may be asked to perform again if they are in our top scores of the day.
2. SOCIAL MEDIA:
You really should follow us (Utah Dance Fest, of course) on FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM and TWITTER - we will be giving away FREE UDF CLOTHES for Instagram followers that weekend, keeping you up on show status (what number we are on) and current TOP 10 status on Twitter and posting fun pics of the weekend on Facebook. Plus we notify you of important announcements and info via social media on a regular basis. Don’t miss out on any of the FUN FUN FUN!!!!
3. PARKING:
Parking can be difficult at the USU Spectrum, mostly on Friday when school is in session at Utah State and parking rules are everywhere. Please let your dancers and parents know that so they leave time to park a ways away and walk if necessary. The lot we are asked to use is North of the Spectrum, a terraced lot by a statue of a bull. But we want you to know that we are TAKING CARE OF YOU as best we can - so we will have a VIP parking stall for you to use, with your name on it, right in front of the main doors to the Spectrum. We won’t be able to police the stalls so hoping people will be honest and yours will be available when you need it.
That’s it for now! Hoping all your teams and solo/duo/trio categories and lineups look good to you and you are ready for an INCREDIBLE WEEKEND at Utah Dance Fest!

No Classes Over Spring Break!..and dress rehearsal info
Hope you all have a wonderful Spring Break Week-Classes will resume when school is back in session next week. Some Important Information for Competition Classes. DancElect (thurs class 3:45-5:45) will be having their dress rehearsal next Tuesday, April 12th, right after school from 3:45-4:45. They will get their costumes then and we will go over hair for comp and make up, so parents, if you can, it would be helpful to be there and hopefully answer any questions you might have, plus, good practice for your child to perform in front of others. They need a hair "donut" that you can find at Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree even. They will be wearing their hair in a high bun, or sock bun. They don't necessarily need make up for Tuesday but I do want to go over what they need. DancElect needs to be ready to go by 8:30am in Logan next Saturday, the 16th, morning. DancExcel (wed class from 2:45-4:45) will have their dress rehearsal during their regular time slot on Wednesday, April 13th. They will get their costumes then so it is a MUST that they be there. All Costume fees and Comp fees need to be paid to get costumes! They also need a hair "donut" for high bun, or sock bun. It would be helpful for any parents that can stay and watch. DancExcel needs to be in Logan ready by 8am next Saturday the 16th. Also, The girls pinky promised me they would practice during spring break. Every time they practice for 10 minutes in a day, text me that they practiced. Those that text me for 7 days of practice by our next practice, get a special treat:) Music for practicing is found on my blog-Thanks!

Utah Dance Fest Schedule is OUT!!!!!
Utah Dance Fest has posted schedules on their website. www.utahdancefest.com Once on their site, go to FLOOR COMPETITION. Then click on Competition Day Information. Click on any of the tabs on the left side of the page for information. We are numbers 23, 35, and 101. The 1st performance is around 10am but everyone needs to be there and ready 2 hour before-so pretty much when the doors open at 8am. We are going to have a dress rehearsal during class times the week of competition. I am going to try and get the Elementary or Junior High gym so that they can practice on a gym floor. Please have all costume and competition fees paid by next week. I just found out there is a spectator cost-Sorry! :/ PLEASE WORK HARD DURING EVERY DAY-ESPECIALLY DURING SPRING BREAK! A couple times every day in only a few minutes. Their are a lot of big/good studios we are competing against. Make ever minute during class count and use the music on my blog to practice at home. THanks!

Music for practicing, DancExcel- half hour longer classes
I am uploading youtube videos with music for classes to practice at home. I found this a far easier/effective task then burning 60 CD's. Just click on class and all music will be uploaded onto single video for each class. Also, I feel like DancExcel needs some extra class time, at least until Competition. So I am extending class until 4:45pm instead of 4:15pm and should resume regular class time after competition in April. So, Wednesdays, DancExcel will go from 2:45-4:45. I feel it better to do that instead of trying to cram extra practices during the week. For those that might be worried, there is no added extra cost for the extra time. Hopefully you have marked your calendars for the Year End Dance Review- Wednesday, May 25th @ 6:30pm Snowcrest JH. Have not heard back from anybody about any major scheduling concerns, so we will keep it at that. I am looking for volunteers to help with costume changes inbetween songs for the recital-so be looking/asking neighbor girls/friends to help out for that night. We will have a dress rehearsal 1 to 2 weeks before the recital. Remember-to receive costumes, all account balances need to be paid off. Thanks!

Important Dates and STUFF:)
*****First some Housekeeping-I have had some complaints from another business owner in my building. Parents-please make sure when you are driving in the parking lot that you are doing so -SLOWLY!! and watching for pedestrians in and out of the building. Also, no children playing out in the parking lot or on the snow banks. He said some kids last week got close to hitting his car parked next to it and he doesn't want to see kids getting hurt. Neither do I :) If you have kids that want to play outside while their siblings are in class, I have a fenced "yard" attached to my studio that they are welcome to run around and play in.
*****Shoes are in! If you purchased them we will be trying them on in class, and if they fit, your child can take them home. I advise you as soon as you get your shoes, to put your child's name inside the shoe-I would hate for someone to lose it or mix them up with someone else's. If you haven't paid costume fees yet, get those taken care of ASAP. If you lost the paper with financial statement, please inform me and I can get you a new one. I am trying to finalize a Dance Recital Date. I am currently looking at Wednesday, May 25th @ 6:30pm at Snowcrest Junior High but have to secure everything with Snowcrest before finalizing...
*****Important Dates coming up for Competition Classes. DancExcel and DancElect are performing at Utah Dance Fest Floor Competition on April 15th and 16th @ USU campus in Logan, UT. I will be handing out paper with comp fees this week. I have already registered and paid so get those fees into me ASAP. Solos and Duets are Friday the 15th and group dances are on Saturday the 16th.
*****DancElect and DancElite are competing at Aspire Dance Pro competition on May 6th and 7th at Cottonwood High School. We are registered but they will not put us on the program until all fees are paid. So once you get the payment form get those into me ASAP so I can send them a check.
*****DancElite is competing at Releve Dance competition 12th-14th. It is a National Competition so it costs a little more. Those fees will also be on handout this week.
Competition can either be an amazing experience or not so great- Please encourage your child to practice at home and to come to class with the attitude to work hard and put in their best effort. I want everyone to feel great about their performances-I am giving them fun choreography and cute costumes-it is up to the individual to put their best foot forward to come out with an amazing performance.
